The Devils Attack

I woke up to a beautiful day today, changed up my morning routine and headed out to socialize surprisingly early (early for me, anyway). My husband was home from work, we had a friend over still from the night before and another one who joined us for some relaxing time to just talk and spend time together–or so we thought.

As it turned out, the devil had other plans for our day. Yes, he wanted to bring us down. He didn’t want for us to have the nice day that we had planned, and he tried very hard to be sure that we didn’t.
Before the day was even half over, he made his move. I was witness to the infliction of the deep wounds caused by idle gossip.  In case the issue wasn’t bad enough, the sting was worsened by the fact that these injuries came from those that we thought to be our brothers and sisters in Christ.

It’s difficult to understand the reasons that things happen sometimes, everybody knows that. Still, How do you comfort someone whose own chosen family betrays them? It can easily become a battle of the flesh and the spirit.

“For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” -Galatians 5:17

As a mere human, it can be difficult not to sink to the level of a fool and go against everything that God teaches us, but as His children we must choose to look at the situation as just what we are, beings in His likeness.

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” -Ephesians 6:12

It took some time for contemplation before we were all able to realize that this wasn’t the work of men, but this was the work of the devil. The victim of this ambush is a good, strong Christian man, who has been living for God since he was old enough to make that choice. He has brought people to the Lord just recently, and his calling is to continue to do just that. He is studying, and giving his whole life to become a teacher of Gods word, and he is getting ready to go on his first mission trip. Yet, things continuously happen to rip him down and tear him away from God. Why?

The answer that I came up with is that Satan knows what a threat this man poses to the work that he desires to do on this earth. I’ve seen first hand, all too much recently how much harder the devil will fight for your soul once you start getting closer to God. He knows the most effective areas to attack and he has no problem going for it.

I was torn up about all of the pain that my brother is going through and wondering why this stuff keeps happening to him, when all of a sudden a verse popped into my head that just made it all seem so small…

“That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” -2 Corinthians 12:10

God can do His best work in you once you realize that you are weak. When you think you have nothing left to give, you can allow God to take over. As a group today, that is what myself and my husband and our friends all had to do. We needed to realize the issue, and give God the control.
That is the only true place where control belongs.
