Praying for the Enemy

14 Dec

I’m sure that everyone has heard about the tragedy in Connecticut this morning, and I’ve seen and heard so many things said about the shooter over the course of the day, and while my initial feelings upon hearing this news was far from those of love, it didn’t take long to turn to God. I’m sure that we’ve all prayed for the families of those involved and will continue to do so, but let’s not forget to also pray for the soul of the enemy as God commanded that we do,

“But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you”
Luke 6:27

As difficult as it may be during these times of unimaginable devastation, we must remember that even as he died on the cross, even our Savior, Jesus Christ prayed for those who were to kill him, as he uttered to the Father,

“Forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Luke 23:34
